Besides the excellent rafting, visitors can swim while enjoying the nature. The Sarapiquí River t is considered one of the best rivers to practice rafting. These class III white water rafting trips are exciting and relaxing. White water rafting has been practiced since the 70’s and now Sarapiquí is one of the most popular rivers to practice this adventure. The Sarapiquí is a clean and scenic river. Class III is suitable for all levels of experience, it is fun and safe.

Based out of our most convenient location in La Virgen de Sarapiqui., Sarapiqui Outdoor Center river trips and instructional clinics are only 50 minutes from San Jose 90 from Limon City & 70 minutes from La Fortuna.

Sarapiqui Outdoor Center rafting and kayaking trips range from family fun to high adventure Class IV whitewater rafting and kayaking, all year around. Our river trips showcase the spectacular flora and fauna of Costa Rica’s beautiful Tropical Rain Forest!

Rafting Option #1: Class III – II
Section: Lower Sarapiquí River, La Virgen de Sarapiquí to El Roble
Length/Duration: 6.8miles / 11km, 2 hours
Difficulty level: Beginner-advanced level and up 7+ years old
Meals: Brief stop for river-side fruits snack
Features: Rapids to feel the emotions of whitewater rafting
Transportation: Back to our headquarters (optional)

Rafting Option #2: Class III & IV

Section: Upper Sarapiquí River, San Miguel to La Virgen de Sarapiquí
Length/Duration: 6.8miles / 11km, 2 hours
Difficulty level: Beginner-advanced level and up 14+ years old
Meals: Brief stop for river-side fruits snack
Features: Intense and continuous rapids, combined with beautiful water nascent falling through rocky walls
Transportation: Back to our headquarters (optional)

We offer clinics for beginners to experts from our base in Northeast Costa Rica.
Learn Whitewater Kayaking with Sarapiqui Outdoor Center
Whitewater kayaking or canoeing is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while choosing your level of adventure. Sarapiqui Outdoor Center offers white water kayaking lessons on the Northeast Rivers to suit every level of paddler, from kayaking for beginners to advanced.

Our kayaking instructors are certified by the American Canoe Association (ACA) and tailor every clinic to your needs. Whether you are interested in an introduction to the sport of kayaking or taking your kayaking skills to the next level with a playboating, river rescue or other clinic, our kayak school has a course for you.
Learning to kayak is easy! You can start kayaking at almost any age, and your progress is limited only by your adventurous spirit! Our instructional paddling programs are set up to offer a variety of ways to enter the sport and a number of paths to follow once you are a white water kayakers.

Our newest program - Deerfield Valley Canopy Tours - is the first zip line adventure in Massachusetts and offers zip lines, sky bridges and rappels as you descend from our ridge down to our base on a tour of the forest canopy. You'll experience spectacular ridgetop views of the Berkshires as you feel the exhilaration of zipping through the trees.
